Markal Co was established in 1936. Georges Markarian, founder of the family company, started his manufacturing activity with the bulgur grain. Durum wheat by-product in heavy demand for its high iron, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin content, bulgur is the first grain product at the origin of the Markal know-how.
In the early 1970s agriculture deeply changed towards intensive farming especially for the needs of the population. This mutation splitted the agricultural world leading to the arrival of the Bio farming.
Aware of the Earth benefits and of the hazard of synthetic chemicals products on nature, Markal Co. got involved in the way of authenticity and respect for the nourishing Earth.
Confirming its proximity with local producers, Markal Co. organized its network, set up a culture planning to meet the customers’ needs and developed its global offer. The company moved to St-Marcel-lès-Valence and adopted a performing tool for an efficient processing of the various cereals issued from Bio farming.
Every year Markal Co. knows an important development and has become an always more active player in the world of Bio. Widely recognized for its high quality products, Markal overcomes the French boarders up to and including the Atlantic and Mediterranean ones. In 1998, Markal got involved in a partnership with a Bolivian sales co-operative to supply quinoa in a fair trade way.
Today eating food deriving from the Bio Agriculture is on everyone’s lips and minds. This collective awareness in favour of healthy and respectful goods leads to a sharp increase in demand and to cope with this new deal, Markal decided this year to increase the surface of its premises.
