Sesame is one of the first comestible plants with which oil has been made. Its origin is very old: these seeds were consumed more than 7500 years ago in India and 50000 years ago in China. Its consumption then spread to Africa, Asia Minor, the Near and Middle East and finally to the South of the Mediterranean basin. The consumption of sesame seeds is not widespread in the West. It is mainly found in many Asian, Indian, Sri Lankan and Chinese dishes.

Tips for use

Black sesame seeds have a more intense taste than wholegrain sesame seeds. They can enhance your dishes, bringing crunch and colour to a range of your bread and patisserie recipes; they’re also great when sprinkled on your salads, white meats, fish and rice, or when used in marinades, sauces and sushi. Keep in a cool, dry and dark place.
